Okay, started ordering parts for the next step in Shannons Car. Decided that it needs to get a lot more comfy inside if I am going to drive it. And while the long term goal is to wind up with a Marina Blue Car:
It will stay red for a little while. Going to a more custom interior. Ordered Procar Rallye seats in white and the rear cover in white. They look like these:
I will probably sell her black buckets (sad, they just got new covers and cushions). Also thinking hard about the console and gauges. May just sell them and go with something like this:
Or maybe the Covans route:
But with these gauges (and black panel):
Note sure though. As cool as the 67 console with gauges is, I have a hard time reading them, and really think they should go to a car that is staying more factory correct. Gotta think on that yet. If I do sell the console, then I could try to make my own console. I would like an arm rest and a cup holder! Gotten used to them. Ordered the carpet, dynamat and the Electric-Life power window conversion stuff. Still going to have to find someone knowledgable when it is time to change out the glass (anyone know anyone?), but I am certain I can change the regulators myself. Not cerain how I want to handle the door panels yet. I will wait until I see the black panels with the white seats before I decide, but I may wind up dying a set of panels white.
Still working it out....
As for a good place to do the glass work for you. I installed my glass in my 69, but I had it aligned by Century Avenue Collision in North St. Paul. They did a nice job and they are a club sponsor to boot. I'd give them a call and if you need a hand getting it installed give me a call or drop me an email. I owe you for all the help you gave me on my convertible anyway... It's the least I could do. Jesse
WOW, those seats look really comfy !! I like the S/W gauges too. That would really set it off. If you decide to sell the console and gauges and would be interested in a partial trade for my console to customize but still be correct for the car, let me know. I might be interested in the seats too...
I'm still trying to find a day to come get the engine. I finally finished all the repair work to the Pete and having the hood rebuilt and painted after the crash in July. I'm supposed to be taking it to storage today, but my ride hasn't called yet....
Im betting that if your having trouble reading the console gauges, you would have a hard time reading the first set pictured as well. they look small and cramed in there.
Aaron,
Your interior parts look awesome.
I am not talented in any area, but I would enjoy helping you out and keeping you company somedays while you begin to work on Shannon's car.
I love the blue color choice.
Walter
I bought the procar rally seats for my 68 they are very comfortable. A couple of nice guage choices. I like the exact SW guages along with the kit that fits in the factory spots. The main problem with the guages is the price. LOL
Finally got all the AC stuf figured out. Vintage Air is modifying a Sure Fit Kit to work for our application, and will even through in the polishing of the compressor! Going to need to pick up a new blet, and change a lot of wiring. Really need to get the computer involved in the cooling once we add a compressor. Going to need to pull the fenders as well. Some stuff is already here! Got the car moved over to the bi stll, and got a ton of things to de before starting on it, but getting excited! I do think I will order the Classic Guage setup, I really like it. I have found a console design I really like as well:
Note that this car also uses the Porcar Rallye seats! I wonder how hard it would be to make the console? I would not do a radio there however, as i think I will add a USA-230 in the stock location, and just buy a new plate. Maybe a nice storage pocket up front for a phone and the XM????
Any idea what that console is from, or is it custom made ? Looks pretty cool with the seats !
Changing the regulators is an easy job. I replaced my driver side with a manual aftermarket. It took me less than an hour. The power regulators are no different, except you'll have the wiring to deal with. With all your talent and knowledge, that should be a snap as well. Have you selected a power window system yet? I ran across a guy who makes a pretty nice kit. I'll have to see if I can locate the info on it. If I ever get time to work on my car again, I have a passenger side rear regulator to do. That one maybe a little harder because of the confined space. We'll see. To compliment the power windows, maybe you can fab in some power locks to go with it. I don't recall ever seeing a power door lock kit for a Camaro.
those seats look like a great upgrade, just wondering, hows the leg room between the seat and steering wheel?
I like the the new gauges, in the pod cluster. for my own taste, I would prefer faces something like a newer car might have.
I'm not to the point of changing any of my stock gauges out, sure would like to see those when you get them installed.
keep up the good work.
Wow! Thanks to everyone that showed up for the Tech session! I certainly did not expect to accomplish so much on the car! The welding on the trans tunnel masively exceeded my expectations! The car is now dissasembled, and I am working on the windows and getting ready to pull the old harness and the few remaining items in the dash. Wish I had the time/money and knowledge to go ahead and strip the paint and start the panel fixing and smoothing, but we just aren't there yet. The A/C, wiring harness, and making th custom console will be enough challenge. We did find a section of floorpan that should be replaced (under driver feet), so I will get that on order soon. Thanks to Mitch and Mark, we now that the welder will do a nice job on the floor. The window tracks are not cooperating though, and I have one left to get working (just rigging a battery for testing). I need to get glass on order soon. It may be hard to see, but here is a second gen console sitting on the trans tunnel, should not be hard to make it fit and look good!
It's always fun to spend someone elses money, tear their car apart and leave then leave them with the mess......
I enjoyed the day and comradeship with all the guys and yes the ladies too.
I agree with Mitch! I had a great time and was glad to help out! When is the next one?
Well Kevin, I ordered the floorpan today, and we will see what happens when it gets here! I did order hog rings, and all kinds of dash pieces, and also the window felts for both doors and the quarter windows. Figured I was already paying for shipping. Anyone know how to do them? Still haven't decided where to get glass yet, gotta think on that. This evening I accomplished a few things. I attacked the wire harness under the dash:
Took a while to eventually get them all out, Also pulled out the heater box and all the ductwork:
Did clean, paint and repair the heat controls and do the Vintage Air conversion on them. It was pretty easy. I did find a semi-gloss black that is very close to the factory sheen for cleaning the bezel up:
Pulling wires....
I got to weld something by myself on the car. When she added the Sony radio, she always though she would go to something like the USA-1 eventually, so she cut the metal and then folded it back, I had to pull it back out, straighten it, and weld it up! It is ugly as sin, but actually pretty sturdy:
Done for the evening, note that the only wires left in the cab are the rear harness which I started pulling:
The heater control looks very nice !!! Learning to weld on a hidden area is great training. No one will see it but you. The structural integrity is what counts there and if you've accomplished that, then you're on your way to doing full quarters.....
Doing the window felts at the same time as the glass is smart. Otherwise you would need to lower all the stops to get the glass out of the way. Most are secured by two tiny screws on the ends and have spring loaded clips that slip into slots on the metal frames. It isn't necessarily difficult, just putsy and working in a confined area.
Have you contacted the guy in Isanti that sells date coded reproduction glass ?
www.autocityclassic.com/ might be worth a run over there to see what he has for other parts too. I've been meaning to go there for a couple years but never seem to get up that way. If you want, i I could meet you. I'm having carpel tunnel surgery on Thursday and will need a week or so of inactivity from the shop.
